Jiayuguan Vacation Guide
Jiayuguan is a gateway and one of the most important sites on the Silk Road in China. It is usually considered the west end of the Great Wall. With historic military position in the narrow Hexi (west of the River, that is the Yellow River) corridor, it's a place written about in Chinese history and literatures. The Jiayuguan fort which the city is named after is a magnificent fort to visit. Within a couple of hours drive you could go climb to a glacier in the Qilien Mountains to the south. Near the city is the site of more than 1000 underground tombs from the Wei and Jin dynasties, one of which is open to visitors and is a little known gem on the Silk Road.
