David and I took one of the days and rode the train to Suzhou.... city of gardens. We bought the train tickets we accidentally got tickets to Yangzhou.... huge mistake....hours and hours from where we wanted to go. I took a day trip to Suzhou to see the famous classical Chinese gardens. There were many in Suzhou, I saw the biggest one, the Humble Administrators Garden, the smallest one, the Master of fishing nets garden, both are listed by UNESCO as world heritage sites. These were private gardens of scholars initially built in the Tang dynasty. Pavillions, ponds, winding corridors, graceful rooflines and paved courtyards were plenty. People who lose their sight often say it's the things that you take for granted that you miss seeing the most; blue skies, green vegetation. Well, I think I can relate to that after a trip to Beijing, cos I felt like I almost felt overjoyed to see blue sky, trees and wildlife when we arrived in Suzhou after an overnight train journey. I don't think I got any vitamin D from the sun the whole time I was in Beijing.

Unfortunately, our stay in Suzhou was strictly business and we'll be leaving this afternoon by train to Shanghai for the night. Tomorrow, Friday, we'll fly down to Shenzhen then drive over to the scene of the crime, Dongguan, to hopefully pick up my passport/visa at the PSB.
