Jiangou Hotel, Beijing Reviews
Oct 15, 2007
The Jiangou Hotel ( http://www.hoteljianguo.com/ )is wonderfully located for access to all of Beijing's main attractions; the Silk Alley Market is just across the road, Tianammen Square and the Forbidden City is within walking distance and access to great wall is good (a 30-40 taxi ride away). The services are good to. Last night I enjoyed a great dinner at "Justines", a wonderful continental restaurant where the service is amazing and welcoming, the prices are about right and the ambiance superb. A shame then that the hotel can't seem to get the basics quite right:
The room booked was a non-smoking room - a must in any Chinese hotel. I was assured upon arrival that the room was 100% non-smoking so i was saddened to see a used ashtray in the room - next to the non-smoking sign. (*note to hotel owners - just putting a non-smoking sign in a room does not mean it is non-smoking*). Frankly the room smells. There is another ashtray in the bathroom (why?!!) and the bathroom is far from good - with mouldy tiles in the corner.
The very best part of this (not too cheap) room is the wonderful view of, erm... a wall - with building materials as an optional extra. The management have very kindly provided the cheapest plastic seating i have seen for many years - so that i can sit outside and enjoy the...er view, well i would if the door was not locked (surely a fire hazard).
This is a shame - I have been to the hotel before - it has recently been revamped and one can see a marked difference from the old Jianguo that was very faded. If they can get the basics right then it would be one of the best bases from which to see the Olymipics or to do business from. At the moment, my advice is to find somewhere else.
Calling itself "Your Green Home in Beijing CBD" it boasts no energy efficient light bulbs and too many lights in each room - far from being green it is quite the opposite.
On to the Shangri-La China World Hotel next.
