Walking into Jerash will take you out of the Middle East and bring you into the Roman Empire! The city, known as Gerasa during the days of Roman occupation, is one of the best preserved Roman towns in the world. Take the time to see one of the shows in the Hippodrome, with Roman Legionnaires, Gladiator fights, and Chariot races before exploring the rest of the city.
Although in ruin, you will have no problem feeling like you were in ancient rome. From sitting on the original seats in the Hippodrome to walking down the main thoroughfare street, you'll wonder where all the soldiers are. The ampitheatres and temples remain for the most part, so if you have an interest in the Roman Empire give this city at least half a day!

Today we pointed our rental car North, to the ancient Roman city of Jerash. Jerash is so incredibly well preserved, and so expansive, that if you squint your eyes to block out the other tourists, you can almost make believe you are right there with the Romans, two thousand years ago. We had a stellar day exploring this incredible place, the likes of which I have not seen before in all my travels. Just amazing. The city is a popular tourist destination, so it was well marked and easy to find. T...

I am leaving Syria now. It is with a bit of mixed emotions never before have I gone to a country with so few expectations and been so positively surprised. I will come back to Syria some day in the future - they should change the government and change the politics of the country - but let the people be the same and the attractions be kept for the future generations of mankind. In Jordan there is a nice old Roman city waiting for me to see it. Ok maybe it is not waiting fo...

From Amsterdam to Amman and by bus to the south to Aqaba.
Back my national plain from Aqaba to Amman and a flight to Amsterdam.
Most beautifull sights are for me Wadi Rum desert and Petra.
Stunning ! (in Progress!)
