Great way to enjoy the autumnal beauty of Kangwondo Feb 19, 2012
Korea is one of those rare countries in the world where there are distinct four seasons with each season providing different beauty of nature. Of the four seasons, I personally think the autumn is the best time to visit Korea. If you are fortunate enough to visit Korea during that time in October and early November, you might be treated to the spectacular site of transformation in Korean mountains. Korea is over 70% mountains so you will see the transformation no matter where you are but to enjoy it in complete immersion then making a trip to Kangwondo where the famous Diamond Mountain is located and if you want to have a novel way of mixing this experience with light sports of riding rail bikes as you absorb the beauty of and sound of the surrounding autumn scenes, you can plan a day trip to the JeongSeon Auraji Rail Bike tour spanning about 7.2km of continuously descending track for a easy and relaxing ride.

Getting to Kangwondo is not the easiest due to the mountainous nature of the area for centuries. Preferred option is to take the bus. Buses leave for Jeongseon from Dong Seoul Express Bus Terminal (every 1 hour and 10 minutes, fare 16,500 won) and it takes approximately 3.5 hours. Once you are there, you will have to transfer to another bus for Yeoryang (06:10 - 17:35, 10 daily departures) at Jeongseong Bus Terminal. In Yeoryang, take a local minibus that goes to Gujeol-ri. Get off in Gujeol-ri station to find the boarding platform. If you are planning a day trip, you should take the earliest bus from Seoul to JeongSeon so that you can get there before noon lunch at the platform and several hours for the actual ride and sight seeing on the rail bike and the way back on the free train ride. Given that you need at least two people per cart, it is better to go there with at least one other person even though a single person can easily pedal the bike.
