Nice Budget Hotel Feb 12, 2014
Hotel located at a small alley way near Marlborough street, and it has a very good review from guests who has stayed there previously. It is a walking distant to the Marlborough mall around 600m to 1 km, but since I do not like walk too much, the location is a wee bit far to the mall especially if you are shopping like crazy and carrying many shopping bags, since most items in the mall is quite cheap compare with Europe, you might tend to buy many things here. Alternatively you can always take three wheeler back to the hotel, since the cost is quite cheap but probably more expensive than other cities in Indonesia (the three wheeler charged IDR20,000 = usd2 to most destination), taxi probably cheaper. There are plenty of hotels and guesthouses along this street and also local restaurants.

The reception is very friendly and our booking was ready when we arrived at night time. When we arrive in the room, unfortunately the bed sheet was dirty and we called the reception straight away to get it changed and within 5 minutes, 2 housekeeping staff carry a new bed sheet and change it immediately, a very good service.

We have a room at third floor which is quite spacious with a view toward the garden and water on the ground floor. There is an elevator in this hotel and the bellboy is handy and quick to carry the bag to the room.

The room décor is minimalist but still nice and spacious with air condition, kind of old television, and big wardrobe, enough space to put our belonging. Unfortunately the air condition is not working properly and I could not sleep at night time as it was very hot – feel like in the sauna. I do not bother to tell the reception since I plan to move hotel closer to the Marlborogh mall the next day. However, it is very quiet in this hotel at night time. You still can hear people opening and closing the door during day time before the guest retired to bed since the room is not really sound proof but we could not hear any noise from next door neighboard.

Breakfast serve on the ground floor behind the reception area and the food mostly cater to Indonesian guest with plenty of rice and noodles dishes.

I do not eat breakfast here since I still feel full after dinner last night, and I also couldn’t face eat rice or other stuff early in the morning, so not sure if the food is good or not.

Wifi only available in the lobby area, so not that convenience since there is no air condition in the lobby area, and also too many mosquito in this hotel since the front door was open toward the street and no door behind the breakfast room, which has garden and water. Be ready to be eaten alive by mosquito in the lobby or prepare with mosquito repellant.

It cost IDR450,000 = usd 45 per night inclusive all tax and breakfast for 2 people.

Jentra Dagen Hotel Feb 12, 2014
The Jentra Dagen hotel is located down the Dagen ally next to the main street in Yogja. The hotel is pretty far down the street so it takes a few minutes to walk up to the main Marlborough Street with all its small shop big mall and small street side restaurants. The hotel isn’t too far from the train station so you might be able to walk - or you can just jump into a taxi of tricycle to take you there if you don’t care for carrying the luggage.

The reception is nice and open and they manage to find our room pretty quickly so no need to wait long before getting inside. Our room is on the third floor but thanks to the elevators in the lobby there is no need to actually struggle up the stair with the bags. The room is facing the internal garden so it is pretty quite with no sound coming in from the street out in front. Though with the limited traffic on the street I doubt even a room facing the street would be very noisy.

The room is decent size - but after spending the last night in Singapore it looks pretty huge to us - there is actually space to move a bit around the room without bumping into the furniture. The room is equipped with pretty much what you would expect - an old television, the possibility to make tea or coffee and a couple of slippers if you would like to use those. And the standard bedside table with the ever present light in all hotel rooms across the globe.

There is an attached bathroom with all you actually expect of a bathroom with a big shower head presiding on the top of the room. Unfortunately there is no wifi inside the room if you want to get online you’ll have to move downstairs to the reception where there is free wifi available. There is no aircon down in the lobby so you will enjoy the surfing in nice temperate tropical conditions with no freezing.

In the morning there is a breakfast. It is served in a big breakfast area which is sort of open. The breakfast area is open towards both the reception and a small garden with a water display in it. It is actually the same garden our room above was facing. The breakfast consists of a big display of different dishes. The breakfast mainly carter to the Asian taste with plenty of rice and noodle based dishes to choose from. But you can actually order omelet from the kitchen if you like - they will make it for you - but obviously it will take a little while so you have to be a little patient waiting for your food. There is a toaster where the guest can make their own toast. Unfortunately the toaster was a bit temperamental - it only wanted to toast the bread on the two sides facing the outside of the toaster. Hence you would have to take out the bread and toast it one more time on the other side if you actually like your bread toasted on both sides.
