Amazing mountain views without a lot of sweat Jun 30, 2011
If you want to enjoy amazing views of Austrian/Bavarian alps this is a great option which doesn't involve to much exercise ;-) Take the Jenner cable car (Jennerbahn) from Schonau up to the mountain stop and walk the last 20 minutes to the summit. You have amazing views of the Steinerne Meer with the Schonfeldspitze, the Watzmann and Goll range as well as down onto the Konigsee. It is less crowded and a lot cheaper than a trip to the Eaglesnest and offers better views. Anyone wanting to experience proper Asutrian mountains can then hike town the other side of the mountain through the Blundautal to Golling (beware it is a beautiful and easy hike but very very long) You will hike down a narrow valley, pass a couple of "Almen" (mountain huts used by farmers over the summer to take care of their cattle) where you can enjoy traditional Austrian products produced right there and then (milk straight formt he cow ;-)) When you get to bottom of the mountain you face another 1 hours hike to the next train station (first following a clear mountain river, pass two small lakes until you get to the outskirts of the village) or you can attempt to book a taxi from the restaurant at the car park (tip: stay away from the food ;-)) or hitch a ride with some kind fellow hikers.

If you don't fancy the hike just take the cable car back to Koenigsee. If you have time you can take a boat ride over the lake (pricey and a bit cheesy) - don't get off at St. Bartholomä but take the boat all the way to the end of the lake at the foot of the Steinerne Meer where you can reach another smaller lake in 30 minutes (easy hike)
