Jebbel Cafe Chefchaouen Reviews
Eating at the mountain mans place Oct 25, 2013
We walk down to the central square of Chefchaouen to get some breakfast. There are several different small restaurants to choose from all serving their food on the square itself just in front of the kasbah of the medina.
We decide to have our breakfast at the one furthest away from the entrance to the medina and closest to the Place Debnat Elmakhzen where all the local taxi congregates. We ask for the menu and decide to get a coffee, orange juice and omelet. The food comes reasonably quickly and we eat while we enjoy the view of the kasbah and the small square which is pretty quite in the morning. The price might be slightly higher than restaurants outside the medina but it is still a fair deal.
There is no name of the restaurant so we ask for the name when we are leaving. It turns out the current owner took over the place from his father who came from the mountains. Hence nobody in town knew him when he established his small café so the locals just called him Jebbel - which means mountain in the local language. Today the café carries this name.
