Affordable Place Oct 02, 2011
We booked this place with a friend at the last minute because our days got mixed up and we had an extra night to stay in NY. So we decided on this location, and it was close to the other hostel we were staying at, we literally just wheeled our suitcases down the street. This hostel is located very close to the park and the subway. We arrived and came to the point that many travelers get to, the dreaded staircase. ;) We were used to the other hostel having a slow, but working elevator and these wooden stairs and our heavy bags and hot weather was not our friend. Don't worry I'm not lazy it was just one of those days. :) But we had lovely help from an Irish lad who helped us up the flight of stairs. We shared a room facing the intersection. There was about 3 bunks, small room but very 3 friendly people from Sweden, Australia and perhaps the UK. We were only there for one night so this review isn't much, but overall it was alright. I was not used to staying in a loud city so at 5 AM I was up and just watched the cars beginning to drive leading into rush hour and a couple coming home from a night out. It was an interesting view of the city, a secret hideaway. :)

Cheap and friendly Jul 25, 2011
New York City is an expensive place to stay, even while hostelling. Jazz on the Park was cheap, and good value for money. Not the best beds I've ever stayed in, but the communal areas were all great. There's a nice little bar-cafe, a basement with pool tables, free wi-fi, hostel nights out, and a friendly atmosphere.

It's only a few minutes walk from a subway station, so really easy to get around. Sure you could stay nearer to midtown, but I never found it necessary. The subway is so easy and it was only 10 minutes to get to Times Sq for example. There's also some decent bars and places to eat within easy walking distance on Amsterdam Ave, and Central Park is just steps away.

If you're not too precious about your bed, and you want good value for money in NYC, this place is great.

Average hostel Jan 25, 2009
We stayed for 2 nights in this hostel, We must say the pictures on the website looked more promising. Once arrived it was chaos during check in, the lady was not frendly at all at check in! But never mind. We got our 4 bunk bedroom and it was small!!! REALLY small and ugly green from the inside. It was hot and the beds were shit!! Nothing positive about the room. Maybe there are better rooms but we didn't seen them. The 'bar' area was ok and the sell some food from sandwiches to lasagne, all microwave heated ofcourse, but good. They sell no! alcohol in this hostel, because of the US law, that when kids under the age of 21 sleep in the hostel you can't sell alcohol. But there is a liquor store across the street were you can get it, and you'r allowed to drink it in the hostel bar (strange is it!!). The hostel is ok for 1 or 2 nights but if you like to stay longer search for another one!! Have fun
The room!

A surprisingly fun experience Nov 29, 2007
Jazz on the Park is located less than 2 blocks away from Central Park, about 3 away from the nearest subway stop. Having spent many a time in hostels in Europe, where they are almost an art form, I thought they would be less than par in the states. They were, however, pretty good.

We spent about $30 per night for a Mixed 10 bed. Typical bunkbeds with linens, except that there weren't rungs to climb up on the top bunk, which made getting up there a little difficult for some. My only real complaint about the room was that it was really hot and the air conditioner was central, so we frequently had to open the windows to let cool air come in. The bathrooms were a bit far away from our room, but they were clean,if a bit small.

The main lobby is what I really enjoyed. It was constantly full of people. At night the little breakfast bar turns into an actual bar so many of the guests just hung out there. The morning presented you with free breakfast of bagels, fruit, and coffee/tea. There were 4 computers to use on the back wall, although I don't remember how much the internet was.

Overall, while my friends thought it was fantastic (they'd never stayed in hostels before), I found it on the higher side of average. It was definitely a fun atmosphere and a great way to meet fellow travelers. Would recommend.
Sorry a little blurry. =/ Main lo…

This hostel ended up being a lot of fun. it was my first hostel experience so i had nothing to compare it to, but it wasnt too bad. The workers were nice and i met a ton of fun people to hang out with! I think my favorite part was the little patio outside to sit and chat. Breakfast is provided and so are sheets. There are no outlets in the rooms tho, so good luck charging your iPod.
new friends in the Jazz Hostel :)
