Jardim das Delicias Reviews

Nov 10, 2006
Jardim das Delicias or "Garden of Delights" is a relaxing restaurant in Pelourinho, Salvador's busy historic center. To get to the restaurant, you walk through colonial house to a beautiful courtyard in the back where tables are set up amongst trees and plants and lights.

This restaurant offers a variety of Bahian dishes as well as Italian dishes and other basic options. I highly recommend moqueca, a hearty Bahian stew made with palm oil, tomatoes and coconut milk. You can get it with a variety of seafood. Moquecas and other seemingly expensive dishes on the menu come in large portions and are meant to be shared.

There is often live music after a certain point in the night. It's not always good, but it is entertaining regardless of quality. I think they have an English menu which is helpful and the staff there is great. The restaurant tends to be full of European tourists so the atmosphere in the restaurant isn't very Bahian- it's definitely a lot more mellow than its surroundings. Salvador is full of excitement so I supposed Jardim das Delicias is a good place to unwind and build up energy before rejoining the party that is probably going on right outside the restaurant!
