Perfect for a hot day Mar 13, 1999
Lisbon is a place wth limited shade near the centre. The Botanical Garden of the University is an exception - and a delightful one. The main entrance is uphill a short distance from the Elevador da Gloria. In fact that's the only entrrance but there is another exit in the same square as the Resdencial Alegria, where my friend and I were staying.

There are exhibition hals in the gardens. Works were taking place in one and we decided to give it a miss. We weer pursued by a workman who insisted we could go in - and who would have had the heart not to. I remember nothing else about it!

The garden itself however contains plants/trees from all the former Portuguese colonies and from all continents. The shade is just wonderful - even in the heat of a good march, which we had.

There is only one tree in my photo!
A single tree - Botanical garden, …
