Jardim Botanico Coimbra Reviews
Stunning place too visit Nov 29, 2010
The gardens were created by the Marquis of Pombal, and are widely considered to be amongst the best and most beautiful botanical gardens in the whole of Portugal.
Apart from rare species of plants, there are many recognisable trees and shrubs, including a few massive patches of bamboo grass!
The gardens are wonderfully dotted with many statues and fountains. Again, the artwork is continued with the characteristic tilework that is to be expected in Portugal.
The gardens reminded me a little about the gardens found in the Alhambra, Granada - lush, green, Islamically influenced and stunning water features.
The gardens are very near the university, and would make for a wonderful stroll at any time of the year, and a very relaxing afternoon when the weather is good!
