Japanese Garden at Hermann Park Houston Reviews
Peaceful Pause Jul 25, 2015
Designed by the famous landscape architect, Ken Nakajima, this peaceful space within Hermann Park is a true treat for the senses. You will not be surprised to find dogwoods, cherry trees and stone pathways, but the garden is all about serenity and not surprise. The abundant flora is tastefully complemented by a sprinkling of bridges and tea houses. This is not a huge space, so you can probably walk every track in about ten minutes, but please proceed casually because this garden was built for calm pauses and contemplation.
I was happy to see fair traffic (meaning enough to reinforce the garden was an attraction, without being crowded), and guests were clearly savoring the respite from a busy world outside. Several attributes within (e.g., a large, granite lantern) are donations from Houston’s sister city in Japan, Chiba. Beyond mentioning this beauty may be enjoyed for no charge, the pictures do a much better job than my words, so I will leave you with hours of operation and hush: daily April-Sept, 10am-6pm and Oct-Mar, 10am-5pm.
