Good Atmosphere Feb 20, 2009
If you want a "realistic" pub experience then the James Joyce of Durham is for you. The James Joyce has a great pub atmosphere, however there is no sawdust on the floor. The James Joyce Irish Pub is small so go early to claim your favorite seating. There is additional seat on the patio out front. The James Joyce stocks numerous bottled United Kingdom brews including Strong Bow. Their tap brews is diverse and always fresh. They have a giant beer selection and a fully stocked liquor bar. Their food menu includes several traditional United Kingdom plates including meat pies and fish and chips.

I have eaten here numerous times. The food has never disappointed. The meals are creative, properly prepared and ample in quantity. I usually get one of the soup and sandwich combos. It is always to much to eat. They have a good standard menu. However, I suggest you always order at least one of their specials.

There is live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The bands typically begin around 10:00 PM. This is a small place so you probably should go early and have diner so that you can claim your place at the bar.

Definitely give the Joyce a try sometime. But, be prepared to wait for the bill, they are not always very speedy (but they are all pretty friendly). The James Joyce is a great place for date nights.
