If Bangkok has Khao San Road as a favorite place for foreign tourists to stay, then Jakarta has Jalan Jaksa. Why are they called Jalan Jaksa, since the Dutch colonial period, the region is inhabited by many students studying in Jakarta Academy of Law (Rechts Hogeschool Batavia). That's why this place is popular as Jalan Jaksa.
This road is famous for world travelers, foreign tourists who usually have a tight budget or better known as the backpacker will come to Jalan Jaksa to stay. In Jalan Jaksa there are many convenient and inexpensive lodging almost all those around the street is fairly cheap.
Jalan Jaksa that has a length of about 400 meters and a width of 8 meters is located in central Jakarta, about 1 mile south of National Museum (Monas) and Gambir station,
To find location of Jalan Jaksa from the Soekarno Hata Airpot, Jakarta you can DAMRI bus ride from the airport arrives / departs every 15-30 minutes. It costs Rp 20,000 per person and will stop at the station Gambir. After that can ride motorcycle, bajaj or taxi to Jalan Jaksa costs about Rp10000 till Rp 15000. You can also walk about 15 minutes. The Taxi costs from airport to Jalan Jaksa Rp.150 000.
2. Hotel and Accomodation
Jalan Jaksa is offer a wide range of accommodation options, mainly low cost accommodation for hostels or dormitorry. The famous are Hotel Istana Ratu, Hotel Lee Margot and Hotel Karya Bahana. The cost of staying in the Hotel in this are Rp 150,000 to Rp 350,000 and in accordance with existing facilities. Not too far from Jalan Jaksa is Jalan Wahid Hasyim Road is offer middle-range options like Ibis Hotel, Akmani Hotel etc. If you want to feel like stay at your own home, you can try to stay in a cheap lodging provided by locals. The highest tariff is about Rp. 80,000
The sidewalks of Jalan Jaksa has many eating places known as warungs, cafes and restaurants. The most popular ones Fried rice (nasi goreng), fried noodles (mie goreng), satay with peanut sauce, grilled fish (ikan bakar) . This street is also features with several cafes and restaurants where you can have the western dishes. You also can go to Jalan Sabang and Jalan Wahid Hasyim not too far from Jalan Jaksa , you can found some western restaurant, chinesse food restaurant, Indonesian food restaurant also food stall.
4. Night Life
On Jalan Jaksa has several bars and cafe. They have the attraction on live music. Mostly the live music start at 9 pm till 2 am. Me and TB Arriana visited Bali Hai Cafe to hangout after office hour , the cafe situation really minimalist , outdoor cafe and i saw so many peoples hangout this cafe. They offer western menu, asian menu and indonesian menu. We ordered chicken noodle, capcay, milk shake, capcay, and coca cola total Rp.63.000 wow..really cheap.
5. Shopping Place
Not too far from jalan Jaksa you can found Shopping Centre are Sarinah Thamrin, Tanah Abang dan Pasar Baru.
If you come on July - August you also can see "Festival Jalan Jaksa" festival aimed at promoting the culture of indigenous Jakartans, commonly known as Betawi
