Jai Mahal Palace Jaipur Reviews
Luxury in Heritage Feb 16, 2012
The 'Jai Mahal Palace' or the Victory Palace is a heritage property in the heart of Jaipur which was made by the King in celebration of his victory ( over some battle that I don't remember ) .
As is true for all Taj properties , its a 5* combined with the grandeur & aura of a Palace :). We had gone on a weekend trip to Jaipur and stayed at this magnificent hotel .
The architecture is of course of a historical palace restored & painted which is so beautiful unlike staying in a modern box hotel which is the norm of most new & business hotels around the world . The corridors are shining marble mixed with other stones so you get a real royal feel even walking on them :) . The walls in the entire hotel are adorned with old photographs from historical times & paintings from that era .
The rooms are not really 'historic' but adorned in very lively bright colors .. ours was in a bright turquoise which I quite liked . Even the bathroom was turquoise colored tiles .The interesting thing was that there was a traditional window with two panels that opened into the room .. quite different from the glass walls that you have as a partition in most modern hotels now . A LCD screen , a well stocked mini bar & immaculate crystal glasses in the room to complete the feel of luxury :)
The hotel has large lush green lawns surrounding the property , a great spa with all kinds of stuff if you want to pamper yourself ( quite expensive though ! ) .. a huge live Chess board with huge pieces on wheels .. the Indian Royals probably played chess the big way :D .
The Jai Mahal has many restaurants .. an all day restaurant, an Indian cuisine restaurant , an Italian one , Poolside cafe ,a bar and one on the Terrace .. so there's not dearth of food & choice for a foodie !! The cutlery is impeccable & the service as good as it can be .
They also have lovely traditional Rajasthani musical evenings with traditional musicians & dancers performing .. with traditional Indian food stuff also available . There are traditional craftsmen & traders who put up small kiosks and display their wares for those who want to buy small trinkets or artifacts . An awesome cultural experience even for an Indian :)
I've said this before in one of my reviews about a Taj property that among all Indian hotel chains , the level of service & hospitality at any Taj group hotel is unmatched .. the staff is well trained & just amazing ! There's no way you 'll not want to go back there ... I still want to even for a another week end .
