Smaller and quieter alternative to Sanssouci Palace Nov 07, 2015
Glienicke Palace is a small summer palace near the banks of the Havel on of a plethora of palaces in the Potsdam area, south-west of Berlin. Prince Carl of Prussia, with a little help from the bank of Dad, turned an existing hunting lodge into a neoclassical Italian villa in the 1820s.

The palace itself can only be viewed via a guided tour. Normally this will be in German but you might get lucky like me if you are the only person on the tour. Even if you don't go into the palace the grounds are lovely to walk round and you can also have a look at the Glienicke Bridge where spies were exchanged during the Cold War.
