Jadran Hotel Opatija

I stayed at the Hotel Jadran while I was attending a conference in Rijeka. It is an awesome hotel. There is an amazing view of the Adriatic and at night I would sit on my balcony and look out on the bay and the Island of Krk. It used to be a training facility for the Yugoslavian national swim team so it has a cool Soviet look and feel to the architecture but it has been turned into a really pleasant hotel with a lovely dining room overlooking the rocky coast of the Adriatic. The one bummer is that it is a fair walk from the city center and on a hot day it is kind of a pain, but its only about a $15 taxi ride if you become desperate. The one other thing to be aware of is that the dining room is not always open to everyone. Two of the nights I was there I was starving and there were parties going on in the dining room and I couldn't get dinner. So be forewarned of that and be sure to have alternate dinner plans just in case. But all in all I would definitely stay at the Hotel jadran again!
