Airlines like money and it turns out that the best way for airlines to make money is to ensure that there are as few empty seats on a plane as possible. When a person doesn’t show up for a flight, the seat is left empty and an empty seat is a lost opportunity for revenue. As a result of this conundrum, airlines employ fancy statisticians to figure out how many seats the airline needs to overbook just to make up for the no-shows.Unfortunately, those statisticians aren’t fortune tellers and ...

This morning I took my mom, dad and my two year old niece Olivia to the beach at Little Talbot Island State Park.  I visited the beach the previous week on a field trip and was told by a park ranger about a spot on the island that is perfect for finding starfish and sanddollars.  The island is located off of A1A and is easily accesible.  Park fees will cost you $3 per vehicle, but it is more than worth it.  Just beyond the ranger station is a parking lot with covered picni...

We came, we saw, we conquered. Our study abroad was well worth it, and I am thoroughly convinced that a return is necessary in my future. I made great friends and had incredible experiences. The portenos do not lie when they say that their country has the best of many things. I will return, Argentina, up for more adventures. On my list for a return trip:Patagonia: Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia, and AntarcticaCordoba and RosarioMar del Plata (hey, why not go to the beach in the winter?)I'm also up ...

This past weekend, my friend Chuck from Texas came down to visit and sail around with me. Since my last post, I had been tied up in the marina just getting to know the boat. So I was really glad to have someone visit and help me sail. Chuck is a great sailor and we both learned some new things about the boat. Hopefully our little weekend adventure was enough to inspire him to get his boat out of the lake and into the ocean! Come on Chuck, we'll sail over to the Bahamas together. On Saturday, w...

Alas it's finally time for my next trip.  Each year my family goes on a Carribean cruise.  This year we booked a cruise through Carnival that would take us to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Belize.  After a hurricane took Costa Maya out the port was replaced with Roatan, Honduras and we couldn't be more excited!

If you would love to go to Daytona Beach and miss the crowds, go in late December. Oceanfront resort very affordable and no crowds. The people at Daytona were so friendly and also St Augustine which is a very old, but great city to visit. It has a lot of history. The Kennedy Space Center was also worth every minute

End of trip.  Check-out went well.  Weather was cold.  It was miserable returning from the Bahamas to that. Overall Trip Summary:  The Celebration is one of the smaller ships and older ships in Carnival's fleet.  It certainly showed the wear of years of use.  The paint was chipping in some of the places around the upper decks.  The service and food were good.  I would have to say that if this was the first cruise that I had been on I would have been v...

The people of Cocoa, Daytona and St. Augustine were teaching me a lot. I got such as quality of information that I can write a book with that. I learn how important is to have passion for what we do. Day 1- Flying Solo

This flight didn't go without incident.   They never do.  There was mechanical problems with the plane so we had to switch.  We stole the plane that was heading for Chicago.  Nice touch.  On the 10 hour flight home I didn't sleep.  Now that I've figured out this whole controlling jet lag thing, I wanted to see if it worked in reverse motions.  I got into Jacksonville via Miami just after 10:30. Mom and dad met me at the airport.  I came home,...
