Jack's Boathouse Washington Reviews
View the city from the peaceful Potomac River Aug 08, 2010
Jack's Boathouse offers residents and visitors a more unique way to see the city; from the river! And instead of paying a lot to go on a yacht or other moterized boat, and being dictated by someone else's schedule and pace, Jack's offers an inexpensive way to do it yourself! Offering rentals of two-person kayaks, solo kayaks and canoes, all of which go for $12 an hour, patrons of Jack's not only get to see such landmarks like Georgetown University, the waterfront, the Kennedy Center, Watergate, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetary as well as various bridges and downtown Roslyn from the water, but they get a great workout in doing so! Easy to locate (at the end of Water St NW right under the Key Bridge), Jack's also has very helpful and friendly staff who will assist you in signing your waiver, selecting the proper life jacket, properly sized oars and boat and help you in and out of your boat. Jack's also offers water, redbull and sodas for sale (water is definitely recommended to take with you in your boat) at moderate prices.
A common route for many boaters is to head across to Roosevelt Island; here you may beach your boat and tie it up while you explore the nature on the island on foot. Then, head back out, and go downriver, passing Georgetown waterfront, the Watergate and the Kennedy Center. If you're not tired, keep going under the Roosevelt Bridge and check out the Lincoln Memorial to your left. Then, head around the Virginia side of Roosevelt Island, slowly making your way back to Jack's. The water here is calm and perfect for all levels of boaters, save for the occasional minor wake given off by a motorboat.
If you've grown tired of walking and seeing the sites from ground level, head over to Jack's to work out your arms and see them from the river!
