Jack Stack BBQ...A 50 Year Tradition Jul 13, 2008
This was another one of our venues at the KC meetup. Jack Stack's is one of the more popular BBQ restaurants in KC, along with Gates.
Jack Stack Barbecue was originated in 1957 by the Fiorella family in the traditional style of a storefront Barbecue house with a modest selection of 5-6 items. Jack, the eldest son, worked there from its inception until 1974 when he decided to branch off to expand the Barbecue theme and start Fiorella's Smoke Stack of Martin City.
In the mid seventies, there were many good Barbecues in Kansas City.
The Grandfalloon Jack says, "my wife (Delores) told me we were just another Barbecue joint in Kansas City. So we decided then we had to stand out." Jack brought Gourmet Hickory Wood Cookery in 1977 with brick-oven cooking and created the most extensive Barbecue menu in the country. From Jack and Delores' travels on the Yugoslav coast came the idea of grilling seafood over Hickory wood. Thus, Fresh Seafood was added to the traditional menu of Barbecue Meats and Hickory-grilled Poultry and Steaks.
This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, great service, and moderate prices. Oh, yeah...the BBQ is great!!!
