Several years ago I attended as seminar at Jack London Square in Oakland. There are three hotels in or across the street from the square. There are many eateries in and around the immediate area that caters to just about any mood or price range you are ready for. While there you may want to visit one of the museums and attractions. There are the African American Museum and Library, the USS Potomac, FDR's floating White House, the Lightship Relief, the Museum of Children's Art, and the Oakland Museum of California. This is a buzzing place with weekly, and even daily events and attractions and special musical guests. Their events calendar covers hundreds of items. The farmer's market and the Artisan's market, the Pavilion stage, as well as Barnes and Noble Booksellers have many events. Check the website to learn more. Also, ferries to and from San Francisco, SBC park, are at the foot of Clay St. right at the Square. I have since taken the ferry to Oakland's Jack London Square for a nice dinner there while staying in San Francisco. It is a nice ride to or from San Francisco, and in the evening can be quite romantic.
