Nice Hotel in Mexico City May 02, 2013
In a very nice part of the city (Polanco D.F.), this hotel is expertly located, especially for the business traveler. For the tourists, you are very close to Chupultapec Castle, which is one of the premier sights in the city. As my Mexican friend says, the hotel is in the Mexican equivalent of Beverly Hills. As such, you are in one of the safest neighborhoods and several great restaurants and bars are only a short walk away. The executive lounge was recently refurbished and is nice, however ranks in the 80 percentile in my opinion. The food offered is good, but the wine selection is slim and alcohol and beers come at a cost. As always the food in the attached restaurants was fantastic. UPDATE: I just returned from my second stay this year on the D.F. JW Marriott. Once again the report card receives A's. 1 of the 2 attached restaurants had changed formats since my last stay and was actually completely shut down to make room for a new ballroom. They are now down to the one 1st floor cafe. Of note, this hotel has a pretty decent and moderately priced gift shop if you cannot get out and about to shop. UPDATE: Just back from my third stay at this hotel. They now have a second restaurant on the first floor, although I didn't have a chance to eat there - looked like a German place. UPDATE: There are three restaurants as of April 2013: Lipp Lipp is a casual French restaurant, The Thai House (self-explanatory) and Pergamino Latin Grill. I though Lipp's was OK at best, haven't tried the Thai House (for the same reason that I don't go to a Mexican restaurant when in Bangkok), but Pergamino is pretty good, especially their local selections.

Pricy Hotel in Mexico City May 13, 2010
Even with business travels, I try not to go overboard with hotel stays. At one point, I had no choice but to stay with this JW Marriott. Anyone who has read my reviews on hotels will see that I generally lean towards Marriotts because their consistency in service and their beds are great. While this hotel was consistent in good service, cleanliness and general experience for a Marriott, I was always wondering if there was going to be something else because of the JW status. However, for as much as this location charges, I would expect to receive more than just the average Marriott.

For that reason, I opt for other high quality and reasonable locations in Mexico City.

I might try the Nikko on my next trip to Mexico City.
