Great Business Hotel in Bucharest Jul 21, 2016
My first trip to Romania (Bucharest) was back in the middle of May. I was thoroughly impressed by everything on that trip. The people were friendly, everyone I encountered spoke English, the food was good, and my hotel was perfect. In keeping with the high standards of the JW brand, the Marriott in Bucharest did not disappoint. Housed in a very old building, the hotel has a classic design, surrounded by government buildings with similar architecture. The hotel lobby has a mall consisting of top shelf brands, although, as expected, the prices are quite high. The second floor features 3 restaurants - Italian, steak house and an American style pub. All are quite good, although the steak house is pricy. The hotel gym is actually a real gym that hotel guests are permitted to use, and is by far and wide, the best hotel gym I have ever seen. The only negative mark for the gym is that you have to buy water, although only $1 USD per bottle. The room rates were very good, and I was able to get an executive level room for a very fair price. The lounge is decent with all of the regular selections for breakfast, and a nice selection of local beer, wine and apps for happy hour. The location is pretty much centrally located in the city and most of the tourist sites are within walking distance to include the popular "old city". If I ever return to Bucharest (which I hope I do), I would certainly stay here again.

Great Marriott in Bucharest Jul 17, 2008
I didn't know where to stay in Bucharest so I just played it safe and anted up the $ for the Marriott. It was the most expensive of my stays while traveling around Europe, but with that said it’s also a top notch property and I cashed in a ton of Marriott Reward Points so this was one of the few properties I actually had to cover out of pocket. I do believe they are much better values in the area, but I found it to be a nice location for just walking around town and if willing it’s also somewhat near the train station (20-25 min walk). It was a really nasty winter this past year so I unfortunately had to spend a good deal of time inside :(

Also, if by chance the English folks I partied with my last evening there happen to read this thank you and please drop me a line should you ever visit the States.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jason
