JV's Hostel Taipei Reviews
Clean, Friendly, Simple Aug 24, 2011
Well we got into the hostel rather late, but even at 11pm there was a friendly staff member to get us in through the Hostel door that is always locked. Getting to the hostel was fairly easy. We grabbed the Air Bus 2060 from the International Airport for 145TWD to the Far East End Hotel which is about an hour long trip. From there we had a 10min walk to get to the hostel. The directions on Hostelworld are very good, so just follow them. Although I must say, on the website, it claims the hostel is next to Taipei's 101, but do not be confused... it is a good 15-20 min walk from the actual Taipei 101.
We got checked in fairly quickly. The lady was very pleasant and showed as around the building, but not without first having us put on a pair of slippers, while leaving our shoes in a communal area. The lounge area is nice and has two computers with free access and internet. There are a few maps and things to look at. In the morning there is also free toast. There is a small, and by small I mean, closet size, space for a microwave, and table area for glasses and water jug that we could use.
The rooms are basic. I'm in an 8 bed dorm. The linen is included. There are small lockers for your personals that have a key you can lock and take with you. You also get wifi in the room.
The bathrooms are communal and for the most part clean... the toilet could have used a little extra cleaning this morning. But the showers are hot and have good pressure and there even seems to be extra shampoos and body washes... Or someone left them for everybody to use.
The location isn't too bad. It's located in a back alley, but seems fairly safe. It is close to a popular night market with a variety of shops and food stand. It's within walking distance to the Taipei 101 building and shopping mall, along with the Metro Station.
overall I'd say it is reasonable for how much it is, where it is and what it offers.
