J Mansion

A friend and I went to Ao Nang in June 2009. We stayed in J Mansion as it had been recommended in the Lonely Planet. We got a double room for 300 baht a night. There was a fan and TV in the room, but the TV didn't work and even though we complained to reception they did nothing about it.

The real downside to this hotel was the service. If we wanted to eat there, they got annoyed. We wanted to go on a boat trip to Krabi and the surrounding islands, but this was too much trouble to arrange. So we just too our money elsewhere! It's OK, but there are probably better places for the same price in Ao Nang.

Me and my friends arrived at Ao Nang with no clue where were we gonna stay, untill Franky, a traveler from London we met in the bus trip to Krabi, pulled out his Lonely Planet and say "we should stay in JMansion". Next thing we know we're checking in for a triple room 600THB/night (around 18USD), while Franky took a single room cost 300THB/night with no AirCOn.

The room is decent yet clean. First we checked the bathroom, ah, they have water heater though it wont be much needed, but the lamp was broken. We switch the bathroom lamp with one of five lamps we have inside the room, voila! everything's perfect!

J. Mansion is very conveniently located in the centre of the few remaining backpacker guesthouses in Ao Nang, plus it's only an 80m stroll to the beach. In the oppposite of the hotel there's an Irish Pub named Irish Rover, where you can watch a soccer match.

And here's my favourite part: J. Mansion also boasts a large roof terrace, which is great for topping up our tan or watching the sun go down over the islands, perhaps with a beer or two. The view over the cliffs and the sea is breathtaking.
