The history of Guatemala City began in 1524 when in times of colonization, Spanish Pedro de Alvarado founded near Iximché, cackchiquel Indian capital, Santiago de los Caballeros of Guatemala.

In this place stayed until 1526, where, because of conflicts that arise with the natives of the place, had to be moved.

Archeological site located in the municipality of Tecpán Guatemala, 3 miles south of the headquartes of this county at an altitude of 2140 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Ratzamut. It was the capital of the Mayan group kaqchikel. Their remains were found in a pine forest characteristic of the highlands of Guatemala. The remains of temples and a ballgame that persist today are part of the ceremonial center of the ancient city, which collapsed in 1524 before the Spanish conquistadors, as it tells the Memorial of Sololá. That same year, the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado founded in his colindancia the first capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala; Tecpán Guatemala
