We flew into Pisa early afternoon. Our Holiday apartment was in the little village of San Gervasio near Palaia. The area is very nice, great scenery and lots of photo opertunities. After we checked into the apartment we took a drive and stopped and took some pictures of the scenery.

We arrived on a very hot april day in Rome, tired and most definitely sleepy, after spending a brutal sleepless night in Marseilles airport the night before. The airport in Rome was packed and it took us forever to find our way to the small ticket booth for our coach that will take us to the city center. We finally got on the coach, felt dizzy on the first five minutes inside the hot bus and felt completely sick 30 minutes after. Wasn't there any airconditioning or something? Or ev...

I just got the photos from my other friend Leslie (yes, 4 mos later) and had to update. Much better photos of me and the evil little chihuaha that attacked me. But the bar we stumbled upon was so cute. I think that is one of my favorite things about Venice, the little bars that are scattered all over. Pop in, have a drink (or 5) and keep going!

This was already the last day in this amazing city! :(
At 9am we had to come together and took the bus to Tivoli.
First we visited this place, all with waterfalls and beautiful gardens!
A place to stay for one day and just being happy, smiling and relaxing. But.. unfortunately we had to go back to Holland!
We have had a lunch together for the last time. We drove back to the Airport but had to wait so long.. L Didn’t like to be back in Holland again..
Hope to come b...

Day two in Italy started with the early morning ringing of bells... always a gamble when you stay in a converted former monastery. But at least it got us up and down to the continental-style breakfast (read: a few rolls, some Nutella and cereal if you're lucky... the coffee was excellent though!). Packing up our stuff we shoved it all in the car and headed to reception for instructions on how to get to the famous Leaning Tower. Pisa being quite a small city, it was well within walking di...

I drove by car from Amsterdam Holland to Lucca. There I discovered a beautifull hotel! Actually it's a "privately" run mansion on the hills in the neighbourhood of lucca called "la cappella (www.lacappellalucca.it) with a swimming pool with beautifull views! A superb breakfast and very nice people! Ever seen the TV programme "a new start"? about people starting their own hotel or business by buying an old castle or house? Well... these people did... they bought a kind of ruine and after 6 yea...

John Steinbeck (excerpts from Harper’s Bazaar, May 1953)
Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone. Its houses climb a hill so steep it would be a cliff except that stairs are cut in it. I believe that whereas most house foundation are vertical, in Positano they are horizontal. The small curving hay of unbelievably blue and green water lips gently on a beach of small pebbles. There is only one ...

On our trip to the grocery store, Fred and I stopped by a bakery. We found these crazy cookies that we bought for the girls. They really got a kick out of them and they said they were delicious too.

Tiziana, Marcello and Claudio drove me back to the Fiumicino Airport in Rome. Chieti actually was fog-free that day. However, as we went further west and closer to the Lazio-Abruzzo border we found SNOW! yes SNOW! I mean snow to the point it was BLIZZARD SNOW! We got to a point through the mountains where we came out of a tunnel and it was at least 3-4 inches on the ground and had to go through another tunnel and came out and there was nothing sticking to the gr...

We were five "ladies" on our first trip to Rome.
The sun was shining, the pasta was great and I had 4 good friends to share all my new experiences with. What more could you ask for...?
