Istanbul is Turkey's most populous city, and its cultural and financial center. It is located on the Bosphorus Strait, and encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country.
Istanbul is the only city in the world that is located in two different continents at the same time. The Eastern portion of the city is located on Middle-East(Asia) while the Western portion is located on Europe. With a new regulation in city planning on April 2008, Istanbul province is divided into 39 districts (was 32), each of them has a local municipality elected by the people living in the neighborhoods belonging to that district. The ones marked with the asterix (*) are new districts formed in 2008: 1. Adalar (Islands) 2. Arnavutkoy(*) 3. Atasehir(*) 4. Avcilar 5. Bagcilar 6. Bahcelievler 7. Bakirkoy 8. Basaksehir 9. leave, but I also think it's time to go:
much longer and I think I'd start to really feel guilty about not doing
anything terribly productive, and also about not putting forth more effort to
learn Turkish. I had grand plans of
using my time here to learn the language, but apart from pleasantries and some
other bare-bones basics, that definitely...

This blog I would like to contribute to Birol. I owed him a lot this trip. He was really nice taking his 2 days off work showing me around Istanbul for 4 days. We went to some tourist attractions as mentioned in Fatih's blogs and also some local hang out places and met some of his friends. It was good having him around since I felt secured having someone especially local to walk with. I felt very much better about Istanbul. One thing I like about Turkey is that the people are so inviting and t...
