We have had a great month in Turkey, but definitely feel the urge to move on to something new.  Next stop: Romania! We passed through Istanbul on our way to Bucharest. Here are a few shots from Turkish Air's awesome Business Class lounge, where we waited for our flight.

This blog I would like to contribute to Birol. I owed him a lot this trip. He was really nice taking his 2 days off work showing me around Istanbul for 4 days. We went to some tourist attractions as mentioned in Fatih's blogs and also some local hang out places and met some of his friends. It was good having him around since I felt secured having someone especially local to walk with. I felt very much better about Istanbul. One thing I like about Turkey is that the people are so inviting and t...

My last day in Istanbul: it’s unbelievable that I’ve been here for 2 1/2 months.  The time has flown by and I'll be sad to leave, but I also think it's time to go:  much longer and I think I'd start to really feel guilty about not doing anything terribly productive, and also about not putting forth more effort to learn Turkish.  I had grand plans of using my time here to learn the language, but apart from pleasantries and some other bare-bones basics, that definitely...

ISTANBUL - THE CROSSROADS OF EUROPE AND ASIA   There was a sensational silly song written in 1953 by Jimmy Kennedy and Nat Simon about one of the world's truly great cities. This tune has been recorded by a variety of artists, including Bette Midler, They Might Be Giants,  Ska Cubano and the Four Aces (original). The number has also been featured in the 2003 film, ' Mona Lisa Smile', the Pierce Brosnan episode of The Muppets and...

After a 10+ hour flight from JFK, finally arrived in Istanbul. Was so tired since I really didn't sleep much. I just cannot ever get comfortable enough on planes to be able to really sleep. I think I dozed on and off for maybe an hour or so, that's it. Even though I was tired as all hell, I was so excited to finally be in Turkey. As soon as I got off the plane and entered the airport terminal, I kept hearing my name being called over the loudspeaker. I was being paged to please go to the info...

The 1st time I set my feet on this land which I called my second home it was the smell, the smell that attracted me. I remembered it was noon, winter, long time ago and I am so hungry. It was Friday because when the taxi take me to the city, I can hear prayer call, everywhere. I was so excited to smell more. I can't explain this smell, its welcoming and at the same time mysterious but I was not afraid. I was prepared! I've read dozen ...

ISTANBUL: The Turkish Juggernaut Lives ON   I believe this is one of the most vibrant cities I have been to and apart from being the heart of Turkey it surely deserves some mention in the greatest cities of the world. The city which divides Asia and Europe is truly a place which has a lot of culture, tradition, the new meeting the old and history and a lot more perhaps.   SULTAN AHMET    Being the first time to Turkey I think it is a good idea to stay over i...
