I have to start by saying that you need to stop listening to the news about Israel and the Middle East. They will tell you whatever you want to hear so that you tune in to their station and help them get money. If they just said on the air, "Everything's great today", would you watch them?
That being said, Israel is very safe. My girlfriend and I went there this last spring, and we had a great time. We never once felt scared for our lives. People were more than friendly and willing to go out of their way to help us. Anyone can tell by seeing me from a mile down the road that I'm American. It's all how you act around these people. There were people in other parts of the Middle East who said they hated the President or the government, but they were so friendly to us. I even make it obvious that I am a Christian, wearing a cross and such while walking around. That didn't stop people from being friendly. No, it was a great time and you shouldn't let the news stop you from going. |

People who are engaged in tourism (sites, shops, etc) are SO appreciative that tourism is starting a come-back. Everyone makes this clear. Yesterday the volunteer tour guide at the Israel Museum said that for a time she would… Email from Israel #5 (final) |

Since
Sunday is Monday in Israel, there is no point in a juicy, thick Sunday
paper. By the time Sunday rolls around, the weekend is over. Instead,
the Sunday paper, replete with entertainment and opinions, is the
Friday paper in Israel. For someone like me who works an
American workweek… The Friday Paper (8/26/07) |

Israel is a great experience. UPDATE: Leaving Israel really was not a problem, security wise. A few different folks along the exit process ask you questions like "How long were you there?", "Reason for visiting?" etc. I did get my bags thoroughly searched, which I didn… Israel - Jerusalem, Yad Vashem & Last Day |
