Island People Girl Power Carnival fete (party) Port of Spain Reviews
Worth it Mar 10, 2011
Although it was considerably expensive, a GirlPower fete is one of the parties you should be saving up for. There are two types of tickets to buy, General inclusive and Hyper-inclusive. I bought the latter and it was so worth it. Tickets were over $100 US, but it included first early entry, a full spread and unlimited premium alcohol. There was a dessert table and we were actually separated from the general inclusive crowd (which I didn't really like).
Although there was a party at Jenny's Car Park the night before, they managed to set it up a little differently. The stage is huge and several big artists performed. It was after/during Soca Monarch (a competition of over 30 Soca artists). The winner, Machel Montano, came by and performed around 5 in the morning. The sun was coming up, the crowd was going insane and then someone pulled the plug and shut all th power off at 630; so, the crowd began to sing and stomp and it lasted a little longer, but eventually, exhausted from 7 hours of partying, people began to leave.
The food served throughout the party included phulori, doubles, corn soup and a food line with rice and peas, shrimp marsala, cinnamon plantains, geera chicken, cassava, callaloo, thai dumplings and about 5 other items. The liquor flowed and never stopped and there was even a margarita bar somewhere.
Worth it if you can last all night.
