Ishestar Hafnarfjörður Reviews
Reining Supreme Aug 25, 2014
A really terrific outfitter if you want to experience riding Icelandic horses and their many gaits. Biggest bonus points are the stables nearby location to Reykjavik. Although we minimized the drive by hunkering down in the same town, Hafnarfjörður, it remains a quick jaunt from Reykjavik.
Once you arrive, the spread is impressive. Beyond the stables, Ishestar provides a spacious cafeteria (and bar!) , with ample seating capacity while you wait to hit the trails. Our ride was handled wonderfully. Presented with a brief video to acquaint rookies and remind veterans of the basics, we were subsequently escorted to dressing rooms and outfitted with helmets. A nice feature is that you could also outfit yourself with rain pants and boots for no extra charge
Our ride was wonderfully conducted; my confidence affirmed by how they had attendants at the beginning and end of the row to insure everyone was in sight. Better yet, midway during the tour they offered advanced riders the option of splitting off to enjoy a more adventurous jaunt. A really nice option if you have a disparate group seeking to book a horse expedition in Iceland.
Though not terribly scenic, the lava fields over which you ride are pleasing and it was a fun ride. Back at the ranch, they offered a reasonably priced lunch buffet (a true plus in Iceland!) that was quite good. Ilse and Christine arrived here by bus, so easy availability is a final recommendation for this lovely stable.
