Ishavstoget or the Arctic train is a sightseeing train. Most tourists who stop in Tromsø is either on their way to Spitsbergen or on a cruise up or down the Norwegian coast. If you don´t have much time it´s a good idea to take a trip on this train.
The train starts in the city center, in the pedestrian zone, every hour on the hour. The tour takes 35 minutes and is a historic tour guided in six languages (Norwegian, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish). Above each seat there is a headphone and some buttons where you choose your language. The train takes you through the city and up on the hill above Tromsø where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
The train passes the North Norwegian Art Museum, the Mack brewery,
Polarstjerna and Polaria. You can embark and disembark at Polaria. After a short stop, the train continues on past the old hospital, past the old wooden houses and Kongsparken (King's Park). The train drives past the Polar Museum, but does not stop there.
The train can also be rented for private events.
