The most sacred shrine in Japan Nov 19, 2013
Ise Shrine consists of the outer shrine and the inner shrine. I'd like to write about the inner shrine, naiku. Naiku enshrines Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. Naiku is believed to have been built in the third century. During the Edo period which was the time when Japan was a closed country, Japanese ordinary people wanted to go to worship once in a lifetime at Ise Shrine. The prime minister comes to worship on the first working day of January every year. The Naiku and Geku are rebuilt every 20 years. Each time the whole main shrine is rebuilt at the adjoining land. In short, the old main shrine is demolished. New gorgeous ornaments have been also donated in every rebuilding. Ise Shrine's 62nd rebuilding was finished in 2013. According to the authorities, the expenses of the rebuilding cost was about fifty five billion yen. More than 9 million people visited Ise shrine from January to September in 2013.

When the Group-of-Seven summit conference was held in Ise and Shima in 2016, the leaders visited this Ise shrine.

Yunni, one of the reasons is the transmission of construction method. The other reason is Ise shrine should be new forever.
