It's with much regret that the river that gave life to the City of Manila remained in neglect for as long as it has. Through a recent rehabilitation program, it's starting to see better days again and I'm as happy as a clam to have finally traversed our backyard waterway for the first time.

I don't know how or why but I have a morbid curiosity. I love dark tourism, or visiting places associated with death. There's just something overwhelmingly profound about visiting the heart of such tragedies that elevates the consciousness about those who had suffered so horrifically as well as the most frightening and darkest aspects of humanity.

As a newbie travel writer, I was blissed out to receive a text message offering me my first real travel writing assignment for a local design magazine that was focusing on heritage preservation for the particular issue. Passing up the opportunity would've been akin to chewing on a razor.
