Isabel Estate Vineyard Renwick Reviews
Work in Marlborough Jan 07, 2010
If you come in NZ with a WHV, you will certainly need to work at a moment..
And the vineyards are a good way, espacially if your english is approximate !
The Marlborough Wine Region is really famous in NZ and you will easily find a vineyard for a tasting or working.. But find a GOOD place is more difficult.
It's possible to work with contractors or directly with vineyards, i recommend you the vineyards.
In general, they expect a better work but they will pay more and you won't just sometimes stay waiting for more work, like with contractors.
Personally, they show us the work at the beginning and then we were free.
I mean we were payed by production, so we could choose our hours and days off..and if you do a good job, you see the boss only for the summary of your work to be payed !
If you are payed by hour it is different of course.
I worked there for pruning, stripping, wrapping... but some days before to start, we have the occasion to do some picking and it was really good payed.
The season started in May..and everybody expect work until August/Sept (beginning of august : it was done).. Unfortunatly, we are more and more people, so the work is over earlier than the last years..
It was the winter at that moment there, but happily, blenheim is the sunniest town ! (before Nelson !)
You can be completely freezing the morning..and to tan the afternoon !
Don't hesitate to still look for a better place..for that and if you arrive during the season, "the word of mouth" stay the best way !
Also, you have to get your own tools (in this vineyard)..so if you can buy some from people leaving it will be better than new !
Unfortunatly i didn't have the occasion to taste their wines, so i can't tell you more about..
