Fun times with good food Aug 10, 2008
So I originally didn't want to go to the Irish Fair for the TB meetup but I'm glad I did... I envisioned it to be like the Taste of Minnesota, and if you read that blog you would know I didn't like it. But the Irish Fair is what I envisioned the Taste to be like! They had the locally brewed beer by Summit in 3 of their signature styles---their summer Scandia, their all year round Extra Pale Ale (which looks more amber to me) and their Oatmeal stout---which can only be found on Tap in the cities... not in bottles!

Also, there was wonderful food stands from local restaurants here with a lot to choose from! Though the food is quite expensive... if you want ice cream it's $5 for a scoop and $7 for two scoops of ice cream and a beer is $6. You get the food by the ticket system so you go up to a stand and give then $10 and they give you 10 tickets to get food---each ticket being a dollar. And you have to spend your tickets wisely otherwise you'll get screwed in the end by not using them all!

There's also alot of Irish festivities going on including traditional music, traditional dancing, shops with traditional irish merchandise including Kilts and fun activities like sheep herding and sporting games.

So be sure to get your kilt on or your green and head down to Harriet Island in St. Paul for the Festival!

Irish Fair Aug 10, 2008
The Irish Fair in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Harriet Island is a great free event for everyone, young and old, Irish or not. I've been going to this festival for about the past 5 years or so and it keeps growing and getting more popular. Every year there are more activities, performers and people. Great Irish music peformers like Gaelic Storm, the Sweet Colleens, Wild Colonial Bhoys, Belfast Cowboys Tannahil Weavers, Floggin Molly and many more often perform at this extremely popular Irish Fair. Plus, lots of Irish danicing. There is an exhibition field for various events like rugby, hurling, border collie sheep herding and other sports or events, are displayed and exhibited for anybody interested. Hundreds of vendors also setup shop so you can get any kind of Irish souvenir you can imagine. Kilts and t-shirts a plenty! Or book your trip to Ireland! Any Irish souvenir you can think of can probably be found in one of the many booths. Food and drink is based on the ticket system. 10 tickets for $10. Beer cost 6 tickets, a can of pop cost 1, burgers cost 3, scones and root beer floats each cost 4. So, its free admission and then as expensive as you want it to be after that. A great place to go with friends, listen to good Irish music and enjoy a fine Irish beverage. Definitely, my favorite Minnesota event during the summer!!!
