Irie Chicken Reviews

Nov 08, 2007
Ask the locals who live on the cliffs in Negril where the best jerk chicken can be found and they'll point you down the road to a spot next to the No Limit Bar where a barbecue barrel stands waiting to be fired up each evening. Look for the chicken statues atop two columns and you've found the best jerk around! The only other indication that you've found it is the 'Irie Chicken' painted on the barbecue grill. You can take a seat on the picnic bench there or have a seat in the bar and have a drink while you wait for your food.

Once it arrives, you unwrap the foil containing your chicken smothered in finger-licking tasty jerk sauce, a chunk of corn on the cob and a thick piece of what tastes like potato bread. If you aren't afraid of the heat, the scotch-bonnet sauce on the side was off-the-hook and adds a real kick to the already 'kicky' jerk sauce! The next time I'm on the West End in Negril, I'll be waiting past sun down for the jerk chicken at Irie Chicken to be ready and I recommend anyone else who finds themselves there to do the same. Though I don't have much frame of reference, I believe the locals when they tell me it's the best!

While I can't remember the exact price, it was definitely inexpensive and worth every cent, if not more! Certainly the meal cost less than $5 US. If you're looking for some authentic jerk, seek out the Irie Chicken stand and with all that yummy jerk sauce on your hands, make sure you lick those fingers clean!
