Irente Farm & Viewpoint, Usambara Mountains Lushoto Reviews
Something different in Tanzania Apr 15, 2012
Lushoto is a small town in the Usambara Mountains in Tanznia, and few Wesetrn Tourists seem to go there. This is a shame, as the scenery is beautiful, the town charming in it's own African way, and a walk through the Usambara mountains was one of the better experiences of my Tanzania holiday.
The group "Freinds of Usambara" were far less "salesy" than almost everywhere else in Tanzania, and I presume it's because they have a quality product. Our guide was very knowledgeable, as we walked up to a viewpoint over the town through thick forest that was quite lush despite the dryness of surrounding areas.
We continued the walk to Irente Farm, where a delicious lunch of handmade cheese, bread, preserves & salad left us very satisfied. After lunch we walked to the spectacular Irente Viewpoint with a stunning view out over the lower parts of the region and a green, rocky outcrop to the right (we all took a breath in when we first saw it).
All in all this was a great way to get off the traditional tourist trail and see a part of Tanzania that is both interesting as a tourist, and rather unspoiled by tourism at the same time.
