Dublin

Ended the trip where we started back in Dublin.  Before we left we checked out Croke Park.  It is the stadium where they play there games.  We took a tour get to see the press boxes learn about it's history.  One of the interesting facts is they have a lighting fixture in the players lounge that changes colors based on the colors of the teams in there at the time.  After that we just tried to enjoy ourselves in the pubs one last time before leaving and having a g...

The Isle of the White Cow
posted by:
Feb 16, 2008
Inishboffin, or Inis Bo Finne in Gaelic (means Island of the White Cow), sits in the north atlantic about 2 miles offshore from the pier at Magheroarty. About one mile wide and one and a half long, once a busy fishing community it now numbers a few dozen families all of whom spend the winter months on the mainland.  'T' shaped, the island points its craggy cliffs and stone-strewn beaches toward the prevailing north west assaults, but has a wonderful white sand strand on is eastern side. ...

Ireland and Scotland trip 17-30.08.2007

Arrived in Baile Atha Cliath (Dublin) via Budapest (Hungary) • Frankfurt (Germany). What can I say about Dublin: brilliant, fantastic, magnetic! I love it! I loved my time in Scotland but I simply adore Ireland. Definitely you must go! People are the friendliest in the world, best beer on the planet, great parties and good time (“craic” as they say). So after a few days in Dublin, went south to Limerick. I took a bus and managed to see the countryside and believe me I’ve neve...

Cork Ireland

We arrived to our hostel in Cork Ireland and was staying in what seemed like a jail cell.  But we were travleing on a budget so we can't complain.  It was very dark and there were multiple people snoring loud so it was quite difficult to get ready for bed.We took a bus to Blarney, Ireland which is only about 20 minutes by bus to visit the Blarney Castle.  It is a beautiful area and if you love photography, you'll love this place.  You can walk throughout almost the whole c...

Ireland, sweet Ireland

Ireland may be known as the land that boasts 40 shades of green, but not all natural attractions shimmer a shade of emerald. The Burren was formed around 340 million years ago at the bottom of a sea, and is an extraordinary region stretching from north Clare to south Galway. Arrestingly dramatic in appearance, the Burren’s unique landscape includes miles of limestone layers cut through by meandering streams, labyrinthine caves and unexpected lakes, a phenomenally rich cu...

The last two days have been in Ireland. We flew into Dublin on Thursday night and spent Friday in Maynooth and Saturday in Dublin. The Maynooth position is very tempting, tenure after one year, access to large grants for research, good pay and a role in moulding the direction of research in the Institute of Immunology. My big concerns were that last time (due to HR gone mad) I wasn't allowed to meet the faculty as my application had to be kept confidential (regardless of my personal...

Kinnitty was such a nice place to visit after 15 hours of flying and 4 hours of driving. Everyone there was at your becon call.  Food was Premo!!. There were just a couple of other people there so it made it romantic. The grounds were very nice you could walk for hours. The Dungeon room was closed. but the library bar had drinks as needed. It was just a little over price for the Castle

i've finally managed to escape the oh-so-fascinating world of hedge fund finance, and am now decadently indulging my long-suppressed wanderlust with 15 months on the road and around the world... *note: apart from the odd review (generally of something not found in your standard guide book), this is really more just a map of my travels than a proper blog, but if you want more information on anywhere i`ve been or what i`ve been up to, send me a message and i`ll see if i can rustle something up.
