After a 24 hour flight from Sydney, I arrived in Cork to be met by Johnny, Anne Marie, JT and their friend Ross. Ross is an old friend from when the Tillers lived in Oman and was a host with the most driving us all around Corks country and coast. So beautiful. Drove up to a cliff where a local lighthouse was and nearly got blown into the sea by the chilly breeze. Went out to a local pub for dinner, Anne-Marie fell in love with the Crab Claws they served there! That night we stayed in a cute l...

On Sunday I met Christin for sushi.First I had a coffee in McCafe (served in a glass!?), then she cheated by having a quick cheese burger. We went to Phil Lynott's statue and watched the people for a while.Meeting point was the statue of Molly Melone. We met some colleagues of hers and then went to Aya, Dublin's favorite sushi bar. Sushi served on a belt. Roughly  €3 per plate,  depending on the color some are more expensive, some are cheaper. We heard there was supposed to be hap...

We traveled via Aer Lingus to Dublin, Ireland where we are currently waiting for our plane to leave for its final destination: Shannon. Already I love the Irish brogue and the landscape. Flying into Ireland as the sun was rising gave me a picturesque view of the fields and set communities that glimmered among the wealth of green grass and trees. My sister and I even saw cows grazing near us as we entered the airport. It's almost as if we never left our native Iowa! If I hadn't seen the ocean ...

Arrival

So I jumped on the plane, delayed two hours and arrived tired and hungry and ready to stretch my legs in Ireland.  My aunt and I decided a great way to see Ireland would be if we rented a car.  I contacted my friend, Alex, who is studying in Northern Ireland to meet us in Dublin and away our trip went.  We checked out from Avis, and I pretended that I knew how to drive a manuel.  I had a concept, and have driven once or twice, but the last time I drove a s...

Our whirl-wind trip to Ireland began with a one-night stay in Dublin.  Upon arriving, we discovered that my luggage was missing, so naturally I had to go out and buy a completely new wardrobe in case my suitcases didn't arrive by the time we left the next day.  It was in this manner that I discovered Grafton Street, Dublin's shopping capital, and fell in love.  (While my father was still trying to get used to the right-hand drive car that we rented, we drove onto Grafton Street...

The town of Falcarragh has as many faces as it has names! On some maps it shows up as 'Crossroads' deriving from its Irish language name Na Croisbhealaí but older maps refer to it as Robinson's Town, but its now listed as An Fál Carrach in Gaelic meaning the long or rough hedge. A town of around 1,500 souls it lies between the barren beauty of the Derryveagh mountains and the north atlantic ocean. It follows that classic 'design' of many Irish rural towns, one long 'main' street with a scat...

Dublin is a quite nice place! It's pretty big, but fortunately doesn't seem to be so. It looks like a good place to live. This is our second stay in the town. We came from Derrylin in the early morning, went to the airport, left the luggage and then went back to the city for a great day. We visited first the part around Conally Station, Abbey Street and O'Coennell Str. and then we went over the brigde to the southern part of the city: Temple Bar, Trinity College, Dame str., St. Stephans Green...

I had to wake up early to check out. Ate breakfast alone again in the "restaurant," which is an old church turned into a cafeteria-ish setting where I ate my free toast and cereal. Yay for free. I had to get them to hold my bag for me, though, which was a confrontation that resulted in me getting hit on by the hostel guy. I guess it's because I look Irish. A lot of other people here are really pale with freckles, too, which made me really happy. Today I did a lot of walking... I wen...

I guess there is this thing about being a June bride for girls. I don't know, I'm a typical guy and really don't pay attention to these kinds of thing. Naturally there was no tour event planned for today, just one very nice wedding. I almost even cried....but I didn't. So enjoy the pictures.

After our last breafast in Ireland we said our Thank you's & Good-Bye's to Padrig and Bernadette, then off to the airport. I do NOT recommend taking the bus with your luggage! It was a loooooooong flight to Chicago. We had about 6-7 hours to kill in Chicago, so we took the subway to downtown Chicago. Toured the Sears Tower and after had some famous Chicago stuffed pizza. It was DA BOMB! Then back to the airport to catch our flght home. Traveling is great, but it's soooo good to get back h...
