A tour of Dublin from Derek, learning a bit of history, culture, and of course tasting some Guinness
Jun 27, 2008 – Jul 17, 2008
Originally I was just planning to see only a bit of Dublin before heading back to the airport, but after I got on with Derek so well in Paris, I was excited when he said that would be able to show me around his home city....
We jumped on the Airlink Bus, Derek explained to me all the new…

Originally I was supposed to only stay in London for 1 week, and fly home to New York. But, as I decided to extend my stay in London, I went down to visit my friend Derek in Dublin and finally experience the Dublin nightlife, something I didn't get to experience the first time in Dublin.
Der…

I woke with a start in my top bunk at Barnacles hostel, a little disoriented and totally oblivious to the time. From what I could see, it was still early as all the beds around me were still filled. There were 9 others in the room with me. I forgot to set my traveler's clock and my mobile phone's b…

My 4th weekend has been spent in Ireland and beyond. It started off with Cork, Ireland. The plane ride over was amazing...Ryan Air from London Gatwick to Cork, Ireland. A330 plane, which included the opportunity to buy baggies (yes, baggies) of alcohol. I bought a baggy of b…

We're here and having a lovely time!
The trip over was not so great. I'm hoping that the woman in front of me who insisted on having her seat fully reclined for the entire trip (effectively trapping me) gets a lousy hotel on a busy street with insufficient pillows. :)

Dublin is a real nice place, with friendly people. Too bad that the alcohol and spirits are very expensive. But, you can eat in several restaurants for very reasonable prices and the quality is very good. And it's not all about Guiness... Don't forget to visit the South Coast (half an hour by train). Kilenny, Bono's place is an amazing village at the Coast line. (look at the pictures).

As the first weekend away after moving to Paris, Dublin was a treat. It was cloudy and drizzly as expected, which enhanced the experience as we could better appreciate the comfort food at Gallagher's Boxty House as well as all the brightly colored doors. A visit to the Book of Kells is …

Dublin's not necessarily my favourite city in Ireland (I prefer the smaller towns), and this wasn't my best trip there, but it's hard to complain about something I didn't pay a dime for. Me and two of my coworkers took a group of 50 students to Dublin for the weekend, and while there was …
