Iran travel budget Jan 06, 2011
Country: Iran

Period visited: 2010 - 28 nights

Visa cost: 85 Euro + LOI / 30 days

Budget per day: 45 euro

Actual per day: 31 euro

Why so cheap?

After the disastrous experience with my budget in Turkey I adjusted my budget for Iran. Thankfully this proved unnecessary. Iran has a very large and active couch surfing community, which not only enriched my travel experience, it also cut down on the costs of accommodation. Hotel prices are generally by room and I travelled with a friend for two weeks, which cut the expense on accommodation in half.

Can it be cheaper?

Yes, a few times we hired a taxi for a day, rather than taking a public bus, this way we managed to see more of the country, though obviously it could have been cheaper to take a bus to simply get from place A to B.

Average costs:

Food & Drinks:

Beer: Alcohol is illegal, black market beer costs around €8

Espresso: €5 (at the film museum, Tehran. After this I stuck to instant coffee!)

Meal: €3-€8 (Traditional restaurants, less at fast food places)

Single room: €8-€15

Double room: €15-€25
