Iowa Arboretum Madrid Reviews
Not Much Here Jun 04, 2011
We arrived at the Iowa Arboretum near the end of the day...close to the time the building itself was closing up, but the grounds are open until dark. They had a nicely landscapped area with three gazebos, and they had some flower gardens near the building as well. Then they have a children's garden with a playhouse and a butterfly garden with a pond nearby that had a fountain in it. You can walk around this area in about 20-30 minutes.
There is a sign that says that for non-members, admission is $2, and a donation box there, which we put a couple of dollars in, but there was no place to actually pay a cashier the admission fee and they seem pretty lax in collecting this.
They also have a large open area for different varieties of trees. However, if you don't already know what they are before you go, good luck because for the most part, the trees aren't labled at all.
They close the gate to the parking lot when they close the building at 4, and they ask that you park across the street after that. Since we were already in the parking lot when the gate was closed, we had to stop to open the gate, and then stop again after we passed through it so that we could once again close it.
