Intramuras - Manila, Philippines Apr 02, 2013
Intramuros, Manila is a very wonderful place to visit because of its ruins of the past (Spanish Colonial Period). You will feel the ambiance of the Colonial Period because of its buildings and historical places. As you go along the roads of Intramuros, you'll be oriented to its rich historical background. And you'll be able to know how the Spaniards became the most powerful in their time way back then.

Some of the places there are Fort Santiago, San Agustin Church, Cathedral, Puerta del Parian and many more. I've been here because of school requirements, I would certainly want go back again and to explore more of the places..

I am very happy that I've went here because it fills up myself as a Filipino. You'll surely enjoy the place.

We've saw other foreigners at Intramuros, they are also interested to its Rich History. You don't need a very expensive budget for travelling Intramuros. All you need is yourself and lots of spaces in your Heart and Mind to be filled by its Rich Historical Background.

Intramuros Jan 13, 2012
Known to Manilenos as "The Walled City", this unbelievably awesome place stands historically beautiful despite of the evident modernization and high-technology showing in every corner of the site. The place is located in Manila travel guide">Metro Manila. Its surrounded by different and equally historical tourist destinations such as: Rizal Park (Luneta); Manila Hotel; Manila Ocean Park; Manila Zoo; Manila Botanical and Zoological Garden; Carfel Seashell Museum; Kanlungan ng Sining (Artist's Haven); Japanese Garden; Forth Santiago and a lot more.

Several churches are located within and around Intramuros. Some of these churches are reserved all-year-round for weddings and different important occasions that needs the church's expertise. The following are the list of churches within the area:

Manila Cathedral

San Agustin Church

San Ignacio Church

Lourdes Church

San Francisco Church (now occupied by Mapua Institute of Technology)

Santo Domingo Church (now occupied by Bank of the Philippine Islands)

San Nicolas de Tolentino Church (now occupied by Manila Bulletin)

Third Venerable Order Church (Mapua Chapel)

Some of the buildings located within the sites are the following:

Palacio del Gobernador (Commission on Elections)

Palacio de Sta.

Potenciana (Philippine Red Cross)

Palacio Arzobispal (The Archbishop Palace)

Hospital de San Juan de Dios (Lyceum of the Philippines University)

Cuartel Espania (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila)

As previously mentioned Intramuros is an amazing historical learning place, as is Rizal Park and Fort Santiago. Although being quite popular, you may find the place slightly run down compared to other Asian countries. After all the Philippines is a bit behind the rest.

Despite being interesting the amount of hawkers trying to sell you merch or dodgy horse rides becomes very annoying. Pack a big bottle of water. It's seriously hot and not much shade.

Magnifique Old Manille Jan 27, 2011
If you want to check on the Old Manila area I highlt recomend that You visit Intramuros or the Old Walled City! And also the Fort Santiago area. Manila cathedral is also in Old Manila... plus museums and other nice areas to learn more about the History of Manila!

The cheapest way is to walk around The walled City or you can also try the "Kalesa"!

Hot day walking through Intramuros ! Jul 01, 2010
Intramuros is the historic centre and oldest district of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines.

Also known as the Ciudad Murada (Walled City) because of its most famous feature: massive stone walls and fortifications that almost completely surrounds the entire area.

Within the walls are stone palaces, churches, monasteries, convents, schools and courtyard houses. Manila (meaning Intramuros) served as the capital of the Spanish East Indies.

It's hard to get lost here, I just walked and snapped my camera as mush as possible, so many interesting sights to see.

Oh, did I mention the HEAT ? Did I ever drink alot of water that day !

Intramuros is a place packed with history. All the way from the date is was built until the battle of Intramuros in the 2. World War. The main thing to do here is to walk past the fortress and look at all the old cannons and old buildings..

Manila Cathedral is also located here together with several other nice sights. Its located right next to Rizal Park so if you see the one you should also see the other. (since they are both free)
