Into The Glacier Reykjavik Reviews
INTO THE GLACIER, Iceland's newest tour (opened June 1, 2015) Jul 16, 2015
HERE IS the newest glacial tour of Iceland called "INTO THE GLACIER" which debuted this June 1, 2015! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHp75OxU9kU
Our JumpingFamily was so lucky to have entered (during its first two weeks) the world's largest man-made ice cave located in the western part of Iceland's Langjokull (Long Glacier), - 1,260 meters above sea level. The ice cave stretches deep underground, consisting of tunnels and caves that stretch 500 meters into solid glacial ice!
An interesting part of this tour were the monster trucks used to traverse the glacier. Guests board a 20-ton "ex-cruise-missile-launcher" bought from NATO and re-designed to traverse the soft, sloping snow and rocky ice of the glacier (the company I think bought 2 of these rocket launchers). The trucks are of course also equipped with GPS because there are no roads on the glaciers, lol...and the snow sometimes change their appearance.
Once the entrance to the cave is found, you go down and start your adventure into the glacier! A guide instructs you to wear "metal links" over your shoes so that you don;t slip while inside the glacier. You will be amazed by how they created this place! With the help of special lighting, some chambers in the tunnels appear so blue. Also, during their digging, they did encounter some natural caves and "icicles" can still be seen in these spaces that go deep into nowhere.
This is truly a unique experience and congratulations Iceland for having such a great memorable tour!
