Nice villa right next to a bar Oct 17, 2011
Inthira Villa, Vang Vieng, Laos

I booked a room at this hotel through for 2 nights at a total cost of A$40 for a solo traveller in June 2011. Breakfast was included in the price, and there were a number of options, ranging from simple cereal, to bacon and eggs. you can then help yourself to tea, coffee, juice and small selection of fruits.

The bus journey from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng was 6 hours of the most windy road that I have travelled on. Snaking through the mountain ranges in a packed minibus, with little air conditioning and hot breeze through the windows was very tiring. All buses stop at the central bus depot in Vang Vieng. The Google map for the hotel is was a little misleading, but telling the tuk tuk driver that it was 'next to the bucket bar' helped. Reduce costs by sharing the tuk tuk with the travellers from the minibus, as everyone is likely to be staying within the town. And it’s a great way to meet people that you go tubing with!

1. The spacious downstairs room (#204) comprised a double bed, tv, with air conditioning, desk

2. Separate bathroom (towel and toiletries provided)

3. Located on the main street

4. 10 minute walk away to the street where there they offer tubing

5. Vang Vieng is so small you will pass many restaurants (showing re-runs of Friends on their Tvs), bars offering cheap Beer Lao, tour operators for water activities and hiking

6. Free Wi-Fi in the Hotel reception area

7. Store valuables at the reception

1. Located next to Bucket Bar – there is no curfew so music is played into the early hours of the morning

2. A mosque is nearby and early morning so there are early morning prayers played on the loudspeaker

Overall recommend - recommended for budget solo travellers or couples only who don’t want to stay in a hostel, but don’t want to pay for an expensive 4-5 star hotel.

Greeted with a mocktail on arrival by warm and friendly, english-speaking staff. The room was very spacious with a comfortable double bed, desk, tv and clean bathroom. Wi-Fi is available in the reception area. Being next to bucket bar meant noise into the night; then there were prayers over a loudspeaker (nearby mosque). So if you are a light sleeper, then the location is not ideal. There were several options at breakfast and you also receive a free mocktail/cocktail voucher to use there or at the sister hotel near the river (I forgot the name). They also give you the option of using the swimming pool. (note I did not take up either of these 2 offers so cannot rate them)

As I walked around Vang Vieng, there are plenty of accommodation options. Lots of hostels and budget accommodation, and the town is growing with newer, bigger accommodation. In a few years it will be flooded with more tourists, so see now before that happens!

ADVICE: Everyone who visit Vang Vieng goes tubing. This hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the shop. From other tubers, it was recommended to NOT bring slippers as they can easily fall off as you float down the river. Alternatively, there are many shops who sell waterproof bags (big and small) in which you can put your valuables to stay dry

I recently stayed in this hotel-unfortunately van vieng is a theft hot spot-I had my purse stolen! the hotel was very helpful offered to lend me money to make phone calls etc and said I could pay the my hotel bill when i eventually got some emergency cash-
112onlyu says:
i was only there 1 full day (for tubing) and stored my laptop, passport, credit cards, documents in the reception safe. They provided a carbon copy receipt showing exactly what items i left with the reception. So it´s like an audit for when i returned to pcik up my items. Really sorry to hear your story...there are just some dangers/annoyances that are just always hope that it´s not you!!!
