If you're into surfing yourself or not, Bathsheba is the place to be in

early November during the international surf competition on Barbados'

east coast. Famous surfers... Banks beers... fishcakes... and to

top it off a block party on Sunday afternoon to end the weekend.

On any other given day, Bathsheba is a quiet, less "developed" part of

the island. Bring a picnic lunch and lounge on the beach.

The first day I visited Bathsheba I took my very first surfing lesson

for a moderate fee. The "lifeguards" (friendly locals who hang

out on the beach under the palm trees) will rent out their boards to

you if you express an interest.

Well, I got up on the first try but couldn't repeat that shortlived but beautiful success... better luck next time!
