International Friendship Exhibition House Myohyang Reviews
Museum with gifts to Kim Il Sung from all over the world May 06, 2010
The International Friendship Exhibition House is located in the beautiful area of Mount Myohyang. There are 2 buildings, one containing all the gifts given to Kim Jong Il and one containing all the gifs to Kim Il Sung. We visited that one.
Opened for the first in august 1978, the 6 stories building contains around 150 rooms, which are filled with gifts (around 200.000) from over 170 countries in the world. The majority of the gifts came from heads of states, but also from normal people.
The gifts themselves range from geniune works of art, to some of the bizarre items. Most of them come from countries in the Middle East, Africa, South America and a lot of former communist countries.
But there are also gifts from the US and western european countries, mainly from private organisations and normal people.
There was an armored railway car, as well as an armored car on display, lots of porcelain, ivory sculptures and paintings.
One room housed all kinds of honourary degrees from universities, medals of honour and other awards.
One bizarre gift was from Nicaragua, which is a stuffed and grinning crocodile, holding a tray with 5 cocktail glasses on it.
As all the visits to the various sites were included in the tour, it was unknown to me about the costs. That's why I made them free.
(Note: pictures that show a * haven't been taken by me)
Part of the list What to see and do in North Korea
